Course

PEDIATRIC EMERGENCY ASSESSMENT, RECOGNITION, AND STABILIZATION (PEARS) CLASSES
Course Description & Prerequisites

This course is designed as an intermediate course for credentialed healthcare providers who infrequently see critically ill children. The name of the course is descriptive of the course purpose and is designed to enhance basic pediatric life support knowledge to prepare the learner to initiate and manage the first few minutes of a pediatric arrest or prevent the arrest of a pediatric victim at risk of severe cardiopulmonary distress. Guidelines established by the American Heart Association will be utilized.

PEARS is for any healthcare provider who might encounter pediatric patients in their profession. It is not intended for those staff credentialed for advanced pediatric skills that routinely provide pediatric care. PEARS is an intermediate course to equip healthcare providers with the tools to recognize and begin stabilization of the pediatric victim prior to an arrest. Case studies and videos will be utilized to provide opportunities to integrate knowledge with practical skills.

All participants must have CPR certification prior to taking the course. There is no pretest. Review of the material prior to class is still required.
